Updates and Excitement

Spent a weekend in Eugene. Visited Ninkasi and was able to watch our future bottling machine in action. It is the exact model we will be purchasing. The great production guys at Ninkasi basically let us hang around all day Saturday and watch the whole process. They were disappointed that it went as smoothly as it did and we didn't get to see one of the many ways that the bottling machine can fight back. Liquids under high pressure can make some spectacular messes.

Mere hours after returning to Portland from the Eugene trip we turned around and headed further south. While visiting a friend in Napa Valley we made it over to some of the great breweries in the area. Peter Kruger at Bear Republic was a great source of information and positive feedback, also just an incredibly nice guy.

Last but not least, and personally I think the most exciting, is the results of a competition we entered. It was a small local home brew competition (since we are still doing all our recipe development as home brew batches). It was an all Pale Ale competition. Ours placed 3rd out of 11 entries. All of the other entries were regular beer. The local club here is large and has some great brewers. James and I are both really proud of it. James said "That means it was better then 8 entries that didn't have both hands tied behind their backs"

  1. This is awesome to hear - I'd feared your enterprise had died before it even got off the ground, and my palate (and GI tract) would sorely mourn the loss of this promising-sounding line of beers. Congrats on beating out eight full-gluten -bearing beers - a testament to your creativity in the face of your chosen challenge!
